take...as examples or take...for examples

Post by Ninaleeing »

Hi,

I am Ninaleeing, a new member of the superb forums. I loved the forum the moment I found it. To ensure my register safe, I send my first message accordingly.

Today, I received an e-mail from a friend suggesting that I replace "take my father and my uncle as examples" with "take my father and my uncle for examples" in my writing. The following are part of my writing.

Speaking of careers, there are a variety of them — from industry, business, farming to fishery. Every career has its characteristics which attract people of different natures. Take my father and my uncle as examples. My father prefers.... Unlike my father, my uncle....

Please give me your advice.

There is nothing technically wrong with "take my father and my uncle as examples", but it would be a little more normal/idiomatic to write:

Take my father and my uncle for example.

But note that "example" is singular in this case.
