Study / study about

Post by Chrisooi »

I wrote: I like to study plants.
The English teacher corrected me: I like to study about plants.
It seems to me both are correct but with different meanings.
Please help.

Yes, both are possible. 'Study' as a simple transitive verb tends to be necessary only in a narrow, academic sense (e.g. 'study math', not 'study about math'). 'Study about' has a rather wider, looser sense.
