What is the proper punctuation for the highlighted area?

Postby FortOtt » Fri Mar 28, 2014 11:20 am

The school opened in 1961 and named after James Gibbons, who became the Archbishop of Baltimore in 1877 and then became a Cardinal in 1886. James Gibbons was the second American in history to receive the distinction of cardinal from the Roman Catholic Church (the first was Archbishop John McCloskey of New York in 1875).

Thank you!

Comma or no comma after 1981 for the following:

When my maternal grandparents first moved from Ottawa to Fort Lauderdale in the summer of 1981 they rented an apartment in one of the twenty buildings that made up the gated complex of the Bay Colony Club on Bayview Drive.

Thank you!

Capitalization or no capitalization, commas or no commas, quotation marks or no quotation marks (is it necessary?), italic letters or no italic letters, "was" or "is" in the following, which one is correct?:

The school was three-stories high and situated at the top of a ridge called Ridgemont, and those were the reasons why the trustees at the time agreed to name the school, Alta Vista, which is/was Italian for "high view."

Does high view have to be in quotation marks? Does it have to be in italic?
