Use of suffused in sentence

Post by withnail » Tue Jan 14, 2020 2:59 am

Hi,

I student I am working with wants to know the grammatical rule being followed in this sentence. In particular, she doesn't understand how suffused is being used here. I am not sure how to explain it to her.
"Had she woken up every morning suffused with existential joy? No, she had not."

'Suffused' is the past participle of the verb 'suffuse'.
