Mixed conditional

Post by Marcin »

Which of the following sentences is correct? Or maybe both are correct? Can you explain why / why not?

1. He would have got arrested if he didn't escape from the chase.
2. He would have got arrested if he wasn't smart enough to escape from the chase.

Thank you

Actually both are incorrect!

didn't escape --> hadn't escaped
wasn't smart enough---> hadn't been smart enough

(I suggest that you recheck the rules regarding third conditionals).
