environment/ambience

Post by PinkLady »

Does this sentence make sense?

a) "The environment at the hospital was very gloom."

b) "The ambience at the hospital was very gloom."

Can the nouns 'environment' and 'ambience' be used in this context?

Thank you.

Yes, the nouns 'environment' and 'ambience' at the hospital could both be used, although 'environment' tends to be more physical. The word you may want is 'atmosphere'.

Given that you correctly identify these words as nouns, they need adjectives to describe them. 'Gloom' is another noun, and the adjective is 'gloomy'.

"The atmosphere at the hospital was very gloomy." :ok:
