I think '1' is the way it is supposed to be written. The breath is rippling by. I was wondering if '2' was possible. In '2' the note would be rippling by.
Is '2' possible?

From the context, 1 seems to be correctly punctuated and the breath is rippling by. 2 seems ambiguous.
