The best English questions to ask are the questions that someone else will find interesting and something they will find easy to know the answer without thinking too much.

Here are some great conversation starters to help you practice your English speaking:
  • What are your hobbies?
  • What types of music do you like/dislike?
  • What work do/did you do?
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What is your favourite food? Why?
  • What are your current goals in life?
  • If you won the lottery, what would you do with all your money?
  • If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
  • If you had more free time, what would you do?
Hypothetical questions are great for getting the conversation started.
(Hypothetical means: imagined or suggested, but perhaps not true or really happening)

I think these questions will be helpful:
  • What would you name your boat if you had one?
  • What's the closest thing to real magic?
  • Who is the messiest person you know?
  • What will finally break the internet?
  • What's the most useless talent you have?
  • What would be on the gag reel of your life?
  • Where is the worst smelling place you've been?

I believe these questions could be useful:
  • What made you interested in this topic?
  • Could you explain that a bit more?
  • How does this idea apply to real life?
  • What does your discovery mean?
  • Can you give some examples to help understand?
  • What arguments might people have against your idea?
  • How does this new idea change things?
  • How will you deal with any problems in your research?
  • Why did you choose to study it this way?
  • What do you think we should study next?

An old teacher says, there is no such thing as a stupid question!

If it is a serious question, any question is good. I recommend not asking a series of questions, try to configure a question that allows the responder to expand in detail or leave it open ended.

Great English questions can spark awesome conversations. Try asking things like, "What's the most interesting place you've traveled to?" or "What's your favorite book or movie and why?" These questions get people talking and sharing cool stories.
