[is coming] or [will be coming]

Post by ansonman »

I have made up the sentences below.

(1a) John says to me, "We have twelve people here. I am expecting more to join us for hiking." After waiting for 15 minutes, he says, "No one else is coming. Why don't we start now?"

(1b) John says to me, "We have twelve people here. I am expecting more to join us for hiking." After waiting for 15 minutes, he says, "No one else will be coming. Why don't we start now?"

Which one is correct: "is" or "will be"? Thank you for your help.

The first is more idiomatic.
