[to sing and dance] or [singing and dancing]

Post by ansonman »

I have made up the sentences below.

(1a) Last night, I stayed up until 1am to sing and dance with my friends.

(1b) Last night, I stayed up until 1am singing and dancing with my friends.

Most of my non-native friends think (1a) is correct. My other friends and I think (1b) sounds better.

What is your opinion? Thanks.

Both are possible, but the first indicates the purpose of the action.
