Hi
I am a new esl teacher in china and things are going terribly! I want to leave I have no training and no one is helping. I have no idea how to teach the content. I have a first part of a story to teach. They need to memorise the sentences "her shirt is cool" "I like her boots"
I thought about TPR stomping and clapping then using an actual cool shirt for them to hold and we all point and say the sentences.
Then maybe half of the class say one sentence then the other half the other. Then give half a colouring sheet of boots and shirt then they hold up their drawings and we point and say how cool their shirts in the drawing are. Is this decent or how would other teachers approach this?
Please help

Trial and error!
Every class is different, there is no one-method that works for all. Just remember that as a teacher. Be fluid with your techniques, don't be sadden by failure. Just accept it and try something new!
What you described sounds great for the class! What age range are they?

TPR and props are awesome for engagement. For memorization, try adding repetition games like ‘pass the shirt’ where each student says the sentence when holding it. You could also do a ‘cool shirt/boots’ fashion show where they walk and say the sentences. Hang in there, it gets easier! Feel free to DM if you want more ideas.
