Chinese porridge

I was at a Chinese restaurant today and they had a really good porridge. I wonder how they made it since it tasted different than Vietnamese porridge. Is there a secret ingredient that I don't know about or the way they cook it different than ours? Anyone knows?
Notes: For Vietnamese porridge, all we do is cook the rice with a lot of water. That's all.

According to my understanding, the reason lies in the patience. Since i started to leave home and began to study and work, everytime i taste the porridge made by myself, i always miss the porridge made by my mother.My mother always use low-height heat, and make the porridge boiled slowly and last heat for a long time,it really tastes savory and slightly sweet. But i use the highest-height heat to make it boiled and as soon as it gets maturing,i will start to eat and go to work in a hurry.
Sorry for not providing some specific reason,just my own understanding.

I asked one of my Chinese friends and they told me something that I think it might be the difference-- they put left-over rice into the porridge and cook it with the new rice. I'm not sure if it's really the difference because I haven't gotten a chance to try it myself. Some said may be the rice I used was different. So, I don't know. I guess I'll try all the techniques. :D

Oh I love China and I really want to try their food :( specially the porridge. Hope to try it soon when I visit the Global village in Dubai. I kew this dish but now I know the name :P

How to cook chinese porridge

Now,my friends.I gonna tell you how to cook one kind of chinese porridge. Beans porridge.
This mysterious recipe is from my mother.A great chinese cook.
1.The most important, be patient.
2.Material, fresh rice,many kinds of legumes, Chinese dates(Dry jujubes), peanuts, water
3.Put legumes,peanuts and water into a saucepan. Boil it.Then stew it for about 20 minutes. Put the rice in. Continue stew 20 minutes.put 5~10 chinese dates in.Keep stewing 15 minutes.
4.Observe the porridge till it become thick.
5. Turn off the fire. Get your bowls ready.If you like sweet.Put some honey in your bowl.
And enjoy your Chinese beans porridge.
This is the easiest kind of chinese porridge.Want to know more?
