Tradition. Just because it's a tradition Yesterday I came accross a friend on the street and she said she was desperate, she had to buy presents for 20 people!!!!! And didn't know where to start. It's crazy these days.

As for Russia the answer is simple - people are more well-off than they used to be in 80's and 90's. Oil and metals are expensive and revenue from their export is huge. That results in better salaries for many Russians and they can afford spending lots of money.

Besides plenty of supermarkets have been built here in large cities and it has become easy to do shopping. I even think that appearence of supermarkets changed the way we buy. One just takes a shopping cart, walks around a huge shop and buys whatever they see.

Finally there is another thing that contributes to increase in spending here in Russia but it is rather negative. For last five years real estate prices have increased significantly. As a result even if a family belongs to the midlle class and is quite well-off it often can't save enough money to make a down payment for a property. So they are made to put off buying real estate for a while and as a result have more money to spend on food and other things.

The whoole marketing nowdays is build up for pollution. They make products that don't extend more than noted in warranty. It's amazing what ~ they produce. Of course they do better things too, but then they have "pro" in front of name and increased price. Sometime seems it is worked hard to make good thing worst..

But main reason why people buy is that they are depressed. they don't know how to be happy.

Of course, people could puchase anything they want through a great deal of diversified services on the internet and they just stay home to order materials they require. However, doing shopping has another significant meaning in which the customers can pratically touch, see, watch all of the necessary stuff in the sale . In addition, the atmosphere in the market itself is still something that attacts buyers to call at.
But i dont think doing shopping would be pervasive if man was busy all the time. As said above, you have lots of reasons to order anything at home instead of going out.
Some of you say it's the better life that makes people going much more shopping. Correct! And also it's a well-to-do life that enables people tie them up with interest in their own business rather than shopping.
Anyway, doing shopping is an amusement for meetings, talks. On my part, however, oh i dislike going shopping . That's the duty of my wife.

Yeah, like my uncle when he first came to the States two years ago, he bought anything he could buy with his first paycheck. After a year, he started to sell them to others since he didn't have enough space in his room and didn't need them at all. Now he's started to realize he only needs to buy what he needs, not what he doesn't need even though it is cheap.

Things are more affordable then it was before; therefore, people tend to buy what they don't even need-- it's the case of Ebay products or garage sale, I believe. That's why they sell them to others with cheaper price. And people who couldn't afford the original price can now buy those products. Henceforth, the shopping circle keeps going. Firstly, people are becoming richer, they have more money to spend.
Secondly, products nowaday are more diversified not only in appereance but also in purpose. So people now have more choices. You can see that cellphone company continually introduce their new design with new services. Or tendency of fashion changes according to time.
And people don't want to be left behind. They get bored with the old ones and keep their eyes on the newer. Especially for the rich, who have so much money to spend, they always like unique things. To some extend, shopping is a way to show how generous they are.

and much more. BY seeing all this daily, we wish to have all this stuf too, whether necessary for us or not. WE just by seeing all this want to buy them.
And also for sake of being better than others , being glamourous, and fashionable, we buy numbers of useless things, and spend our money.

All people do not shopping more in the world. For example, in China, people prefer to save their money in bank, stock market and other invest ways.

Why do people in other countries do more shopping? Because those countries have better welfare system so that the people do not need to worry about their future medicare fee, their children's education and other unexpected expanse. As a result, when they get money in hand, they spend them.

I think it's anthropological and solicial problem or it's humans's attributes.you know we tend to draw comparison with others,so when you dress not good,you want to win.what's more,when you are free you got sth to do ,shopping is a good way to kill time.

I am an indian,india is a developing country. The people are becoming rich day by day. We are looking that they want change in their life. They are getting good education and earn a lot of money. In the present time we are looing many shopping mall and complex. People have a lot of money and they want to spend the money. The desire to spend the money is day by day increasing. Next, I'd like to invite any body in this forum to reduce our shopping habit on unimportant things. We should buy something because we need it, not because we want it. Before we buy something, we should ask ourselves "Do I really need this thing?" or "Do I just want it?". So let's buy something because we need it.

Well, I think, this crazy shopping epidemic is fueled by the advertisment. Coulorful, funny, attractive, advertisments appeal to our inner intentions or better to say to our complexes. They show us that we are not as perfect as people on screen or in a picture. It's the essential intention to improve oneself in order to be stronger, prettier, healthier and happier. Nowadays, people earn more money than 80', 90'. They have enough for their normal life. People in my country often say: "This is not the time of fully eating, warmly wearing. Deliciously and model are instead of old people thinking"
There are a lot of markets, supermarket, commercial centrals and malls also help people approach with as less distance as possible. People can find everything they need in short time, with the most model, lastest technology of product.
Another reason that make consumer easy pickup commodity is PR (Public Relation) which too many promotable campaign to encourage people come to market.
For most consumer's psychology, shopping are the most relaxing method after full weekday working. To go to market, with air conditioner, music let people exciting, relaxing. Moreover, people feels happy when they carry new things to home.
