An honest question about commas!

Post by BERNACCHI » Wed Sep 05, 2018 6:40 pm

Hello, everyone,

I have just signed up for this forum. I'm an aspiring writer, and I have been honing my skills for the past couple of years now, but sometimes I get stuck with a stupid question that I can't find an answer for on my own, so I'm here, humbly asking for help.

I know the forum rules discourage questions about punctuation, but I have done a lot of research, and I studied all about Vocative Case, and I do read a lot of books, yet I have not been able to answer this question, so I really would appreciate some help.

In the sentence: "There was a queen called, Mary." Should I put a comma before "Mary?"

A comma is not required. Indeed, it would be wrong.

As Joe said, the correct one should be " "There was a queen called Mary.".
