Will help fight OR will help to fight?

Post by heathereng » Wed Feb 12, 2020 10:57 am

Hello.

Why would you say "It will help fight a common cold"? And not "It will help to fight a common cold" or "It will help fighting a common cold". What is the explanation for two infinitive verbs without TO being used after will in the future simple?

Thank you.

'To' is optional before an infinitive governed by 'help'.

Alternatively help IN ~ing is a possible, but less common, construction.
