Which one is more correct/meaningful? Or are they both correct, or there is a more correct way of saying this?
a. If I were going to go to the party, I would need to get ready now.
b. If I was going to go to the party, I would need to get ready now.

AmE generally accepts only #1, while BrE generally prefers #2 but would not reject #1.
