adding a time reference to: [before I took a shower at 4pm] and [I went shopping at 5pm]

I have made up the sentences below.

(1) Before I took a shower at 4pm, I had read some poems to my cousin.

(2) After my dad arrived home, I went shopping at 5pm.

Is it grammatical to add a time reference to either the independent clause or the dependent clause as shown in my examples above?

My non-native 'English speaking friends cannot help me because they are not sure. Thank you for your help.

Yes, both are possible, but the natural word order in #2 would be:

At 5pm, after my dad (had) arrived home, I went shopping.
