Vocabulary building through the news

Post by terryfrd »

I spent 20 years doing daily English lessons based on the latest news for readers of the Bangkok Post newspaper. Every day I defined a large number of words. Based on my experience, I've started a YouTube shorts channel focusing on words seen in topics often covered in the news. https://www.youtube.com/@WordsFromTheNews You should understand each word within a minute.

You might also want some AI help (MS Copilot, Google Gemini, etc.) with words you learn. Use a prompt like: "Define mitigate and give five examples of its use." Add "in easy English" if necessary.

That sounds like a fascinating and useful YouTube channel! Teaching vocabulary through news topics is a great way to engage viewers with practical language skills. Here's a prompt you could use for AI assistance:

Thanks for sharing YouTube channel. Sorry if I sound stupid, I'm not good with AI tools, I only use chatgpt which is free, but when I use the prompt it gives me the answer/results in informal language. How can I change it to formal?

Thanks!
