Academic English Studies, Lewis & Clark
The Academic English Studies (AES) program offers full-time (18-20 hours per week) instruction for low-intermediate through advanced English language students.
Academic English Studies (AES) is the intensive English language program at Lewis & Clark in Portland, Oregon. Lewis & Clark is a private, liberal-arts school with a global perspective. Our intensive English program offers classes from low intermediate through advanced English levels. We are known for engaging, thought-provoking content-based courses that are very much like undergraduate-level classes in the US.
We offer a pathway program: students accepted to the Lewis & Clark undergraduate program may earn up to 24 credits towards their degree with AES classes. We also appeal to students preparing for a degree program at other schools, graduate students, students on a study abroad or gap year, career professionals wanting increased English proficiency, and English language teachers wanting professional development courses.
By engaging students and faculty with the greater Lewis & Clark campus and Portland communities, AES supports Lewis & Clark’s commitment to diversity and inclusion as essential to creating an ideal learning environment.
The AES program offers courses during both semesters of the academic year; an intensive summer session is also scheduled.
Academic English Studies is a member of EnglishUSA and UCIEP.
