You can say this if someone says something that's impossible or unrealistic.

For example

  • "I'm going to be a movie star one day."
    "A movie star? Hah! Get real, will you!"

  • "Why not let company's regulate themselves?"
    "Get real! They'd do all sorts of damage if the government didn't regulate them."


This is typically used in American English but may be used in other varieties of English too.
