Meaning

You can say this when raising a glass and wishing somebody success, health, happiness, etc.

For example

  • Rory raised his glass at the wedding and said, "Here's to the happy couple."

  • "Everyone raise your glasses, please. Here's to Billy on his twenty-first birthday."

Note:
Can also be used when asking people to raise their glasses to a place, a time, an idea, etc. such as "Here's to the good old days!"
