Meaning

You can say this if you can't give a definite answer because something might change, or because different things are possible.

For example

  • "Will you play golf this afternoon?"
    "It depends. If it stops raining, I might."

  • "How much are the tickets?"
    "That depends. Seats at the front are expensive, but seats up the back are much cheaper."
