You can say this when a bad situation hasn't occurred, or has been avoided.

For example

  • "I paid the electricity bill today."
    "Just as well. It would've been cut off if you hadn't."

  • When I heard that Billy wasn't going to prison, I said, "It's just as well. He would've had a really hard time in there."
