like it or not

Meaning

You can say this when talking about a situation that can't be changed, even though you or someone else might like to change it.

For example

  • When Danny said he didn't want to visit his grandma, his Mum said, "Like it or not, you're part of this family and you're coming with us!"

  • The President said, "Like it or not, we have to cut welfare spending," and I said, "Like it or not, you can't."

Contraction of "whether I/we/they like it or not"
