Meaning

You can say this to someone when you're about to tell them a secret.

For example

  • Julia leaned over and whispered into my ear, "Between you and me, I think Lucas is really cute."

  • "Are you going to the wedding?"
    "Just between you and me, it think it might be off."

Note:
Also "between ourselves" and "between you, me and the gatepost"

This is typically used in British and Australian English but may be used in other varieties of English too.
