Meaning

You can say this if there's no simple "yes" or "no" answer to a question.

For example

  • "Do you like London?"
    "Yes and no. It's an exciting city, but the weather can be awful."

  • "Do you think the world's a better place now?"
    "Yes and no. It's better in some ways, but in some ways it's even worse than before."
