loss of life

Meaning: many deaths

For example:

  • How much more senseless loss of life will our country's gun lobby cause?

  • Given the huge loss of life it caused, do you ever regret sending our kids to fight in the war, Mr President?

Note: Usually used when referring to the many deaths caused by military or terrorist attacks, major accidents, disasters, wars, etc. Like many euphemisms for death, it's used when the speaker or writer doesn't want people to picture or feel the true tragedy of the deaths being referred to.
