You can say something is beside the point if it has nothing to do with what's being talked about or with the reason something is being done.
For example
- What older people think of the product is beside the point. We are marketing to young people, so the only thing that matters is what they think.
- I eat this food because it's good for me, so whether it's delicious or not is beside the point.
