Meaning: a public performance, usually of rock, folk or jazz music

For example:

  • Did you go to the Led Zeppelin reunion gig in London? I heard it was a fantastic concert.

  • When I was in a punk band back in the eighties, we used to get our equipment to gigs by loading it into the back of my car.
