variant of "no" when it's used as a negative response to a question

For example

  • I asked Tom if he'd ever been to France and he said, "Nope, never been there."

  • They asked me if I wanted to try skydiving with them, and I said, "Nope. I can't stand heights at the best of times, so there's no way I could jump out of a plane."
