For example

  • Robert and I have been pals since we were at high school together.

  • Most of Gary's pals are already married, but Gary says he's still looking for the right girl.

Note:
1. usually refers to a male friend 2. also used to address a male stranger, esp. in anger, as in, "Piss off, pal!"
