a rude, loud, aggressive person

For example

  • When we took my mother to a football game, I got into an argument with a bunch of yahoos who kept using foul language and swearing in front of her.

  • Greg says he was a bit of a yahoo when he was young, but he's grown out of that and he's a gentleman these days.

Origin: From Jonathan Swift's 18th-century novel "Gulliver's Travels", in which a violent race of uncivilised brutes called "the Yahoos" is featured.
