This may seem the opposite of what you are looking for, but I;ve found there is a growing offline counter-culture. Have you thought about using board-games in class, or even starting and English language gaming group. Relatively small outlay and the students really seem to enjoy and benefit from it....

In my school there is a big move towards using (and adapting) authentic board games to practice language functions. If you want some examples, you can see some at TEFLGamer.com. For me, it symbolizes a move towards the gamification of study and learning. Exciting times!
