Re: Suitable Movies for the ESL Classroom

Although I agree with most, I won't repeat what people have written about the great benefits movies can provide. I would like to try to add some information and tips: 1. The movies you watch with students should be appropriate for the age level. I don't show movies with excessive sex, drugs, langua...

Re: teaching ESL over Skype-need advice

Regardless the previous suggestions, I would try something created by me. There are so many things to do with kids at this age! You can use songs from YouTube, for example, there are tons of them teaching the ABC, numbers, and so many things! I would also teach them dialogues, easy ones, with "repea...

Re: Questions Present Simple

In addition to Susan's reply, I would also suggest using another verb, for example play or eat, with the regular -s in the 3rd person singular. The verb "have" is kind of irregular and the kids would associate other verbs with it... IMHO

Oh! got it! I hadn't noticed your point, cereal! I have this problem, too. Pupils feel the need to understand word order in the sentences as if the words were numbered. We are saying the same thing as a matter of fact...

Hi, colleagues :-) I work as a private teacher tutoring kids, teenagers and also adults. Among my adult pupils, there is a doctor that yesterday came up with a question. She has to compose reports in English and have them sent abroad for research, about patients with certain characteristics. She ask...

Re: Finding online students

I think the best thing is to keep posting in English forums. But not just advertising yourself - participate in the discussions, help people with their questions and so on. I am sure there will come a moment when people will look for you, ask them to write to you privately. I hope you succeed, good ...

Re: Present Continuous or Future Simple

Hi! I would rather be doubtful between using "going to" instead of "will". This because both are frequently used equally and are interchangeable, and yet there is a rule: - we generally teach our students that "going to" is used to talk about a planned activity, while "will" indicates that the actio...

Hi! Try googling the words "placement test efl" or "assessment test efl", you will get hundreds of sites with tests. You can choose the questions you want to build your test with. Don't forget to make it a graded one, that is, easier questions in the beginning and getting more difficult as it progre...

Re: English with little ones.

Hi, Jilly I am totally in favor of exposing little kids to English as much as possible and as young as they may be. They absorb it, it's amazing. I have seen a 2 years old (a friend's daughter) repeating songs her parents play for her on YouTube streamed on TV. I was stunned to hear her mumbling the...

Absolutely awesome, Holger!!!
The animated clip is lovely, and one can create a large number of activities. Those that you suggest, and also applying oral practice with patterns such as "if I (Present Simple), I (future)", etc.
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing!

Besides, one can find many interesting discussions about doubts regarding grammar, or other issues in English. But the utmost reason is trying to help either colleagues or English learners. ...

Re: Adjective after noun?

Susan wrote:In the example: is your teacher Australian?
this is an inversion of the sentence: your teacher is Australian. Hence the position of the adjective.

Susan
jenifferhomes, Susan had already explained your question. In the example, the adjctive doesn't go after the noun. :-)

Re: Cursive Writing

Hello!

There is a Cursive Handwriting Worksheet maker online, for free. You type the words you want to practice, and it generates a page with the first line written in cursive, and extra lines for practicing. The address is:

http://handwritingworksheets.com/flash/ ... /index.htm

Enjoy! :-)

Hello, Hany! Why don't you try looking those words up in excellent English-English dictionaries online? All of them have everything you are asking for: definitions, examples, grammatical use. Look at these examples: http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/tensile http://dictiona...
