Dear members,
Have you ever used keyword method(mnemonics) with ur students? It is such a great method for students to memorize foreign language vocabulary. I used the method with my Thai students and it assisted me so much. However, it is time consuming for creating the tools. I had to draw a picture and think about the linkage sound and sentence. For example, the word butterfly, the keyword is ' but ' the similar sound to Thai (L1) which means card. I then I draw a butterfly perching on the card. Students will remember the word by the linkage sound and the picture. Finally, they will figure out the word by recalling the linkage sound and the picture. Anyway, it will be greater if they can generate their picture themselves.
Anyone who had used this method can share the idea with me, especially any Thai teachers who teach EFL. We may a team of creating the method as the innovative tools to promote our Thai students in learning English as a foreign language.
Best wishes
Sidan

Re: The usefulness of Keyword method
Dear sidan,
I'm not a Thai teacher, but your idea is excellent! The mnemonic method is very useful, especially if you can create riddles or jokes to help the students memorize the words. Example:
Why did the boy throw butter out of the window? (Act it out when you ask and teach).
Answer: To see the butter-fly !
