Dear Elizabeth,

Unless you are teaching translation, why wouldn't you use the English language for communication? Everything you do should focus on some sort of communication. Otherwise, you would just be wasting your time. It's all about knowledge transfer, right?

Sincerely,

I think that communicative activities are a great way of having students speak. You might want to make some sort of survey to find out what the students’ interests are, or else you might lack of participants. Since you are focusing on communication I suggestion that you center your intentions towards practical situations-based activities such as visiting. The types of activities should include language games, information exchanges, interviews and giving instructions.
