Copyrights Inquiry

Hi all,
I work with a new language school that uses American Headway as its main course book.
I would like to give my students extra worksheets to allow them to practice the language more.
Can I use other coursebooks such as New Interchange for example and choose some reading or listening exercises and adapt them a bit and photocopy them to my students to use in the classroom as supplementary materials?

Would this be against copyrights?
The students purchased the original American Headway. I, as a teacher, bought New Interchange.
I appreciate all the feedback.
Thanks

Hi!

The Publishing Companies generally put a notice on the inside cover allowing photocopying or not. If there isn't such a comment in American Headway, you can contact them through the OUP site, at the Help&Support section.

Here is the address:

Hope it helps :)

Are we talking about a face to face classroom behind four walls? And because all your students are using Headway you can't use other material? Have you heard of using information for educational purposes?

In my opinion if anyone should be contacted it is CUP, not OUP. If you use New Headway it doesn't mean that you can't use any extra worksheets. As Syl pointed out, the publishers (CUP in your case) usually mark some pages as "photocopiable", so that you could use them as an extra activity, for example for fast finishers. So unless you signed a contract or agreement with OUP (I have never heard of such a thing) you can use any worksheet that suits you (and your class).

Hii

Why do you think that you can not?
Although it was 2 years ago but I think that you may get a higher now :) . Just use all your knowledge, all enthusiasm, your experience when you studied and make an inspiration on your students.
Hope that this message not too late for you to take this challenge.
Gook luck
