Agreement Quest

Unread post by Awence »

1. Someone needs help.
2. Somebody help me.
3. One need not be shy at all time.

Please tell me why somebody and one are used as singular subject. i would also appreciate if you can tell me whether no 1 is correct. Thanks

1. Someone needs help. Correct.
2. Somebody help me. (= could someone please help me?)
3. One need not be shy at all time. (= One doesn’t need to be shy at all time.)

“Somebody” and “one” are always considered singular; “somebodies” and “ones” are plural.
