How to locate students for online English lessons?

Unread post by jalan7 » Wed Apr 02, 2008 6:12 pm

Hi all! My name is Jason, and I'm a private and small group ESL tutor in the US. I'm beginning to teach online, but am not sure how to find students. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

I don't teach online, but here are a few suggestions which should help regardless:

1. Get your name out there. That means posting and participating in discussion forums at various ESL sites. Participation is the key, as you need to add value to the discussion (and not just advertise your services). The more you post, the more you demonstrate your skills and understanding of ESL, and that means students.

2. Put together a website advertising your services, teaching style, philosophies on education, and so on. If you are targeting a specific group of language speakers, such as speakers of Spanish, try to get a translation of the site and/or services you offer.

3. Advertise your site and services.

I'm sure there are others who have a lot more ideas... and I'd be anxious to hear these, too. But hopefully my comments will help a bit.

Good luck!
