Problems with pronouns

Unread postby sheeta728 » Tue Mar 14, 2006 6:07 pm

Sentence: My mother went up and help the old lady with HER stuffs.

Dear teachers.

I am always having problem with pronouns.
For example in the sentence above...
who is HER refering to..the MOTHER or the OLD LADY?

should be the OLD DAY but it seems funny..
is there any better way to write better?

Thanks
*Appreciated*

Of course it's the old lady's stuff, that is mentioned in the sentence. It would really be funny otherwise, should mother need help with her (mother's) stuff from the old lady.

Besides "help sb with sth" connotes that the one who needs help with sth has that something (s)he needs help with.
I think the sentence is clear. If not, will you be a bit more particular about what you don't understand.

I wonder if it helps,

GiddyGad
