use of an

Post by hanuman_2000 »

Sir,

Water is an important for our lives.

As water is uncountable noun, we can't use a or an.

so why 'AN' before important.

Please explain it.

thanks.

There is a problem with the sentence you quote. It is not English. Something is missing. It should be (something like):

Water is an important resource for our lives.

In this case an refers to resource, which is countable. If the adjective important is removed, it becomes:

Water is a resource for our lives.
