The point is that I thought 'hall' and 'hole' have same
sound in pronunciation, but when you told me that they
aren't the same I looked up for a transcription in my
dictionary to make sure in it, and as you said there was a difference in pronunciation. So I agreed with you. :)

The difference between the pronunciation of "hole' and "hall" is stronger in British and Australian English. I imagine that it is hard for your Russian tongue say "hole" as in British English because your Russian "O" as stressed is more like the "a" in Hall. You have to open the mouth wider and rounder to say the Britsh "O".

son-song-sun .. sometimes people pronounce them in an exactly same way!
