i would be happy to help you

Post by jasper »

Hi

I have seen an ad on a website - it says"We would be happy to help you" .
Is this sentence correct? - Should it be "We will be happy to help you."

I am a bit confused. I know we use "would be" in a sentence with past tense

The would doesn't mean the past in the sentence.
It is the well known modal.
"They" have to be put into condition from which they are able to help. The customer have to step forward first.
If the customer moves on then they will help him.
Before the customer moves on they are in the state that they can only say that they would be happy to help him.

Tukanja is right. The sentence is possible and correct.

The use of would is generally more polite than the use of will in such cases (because it is more tentative).
  • [If you ask,] we will be happy to help you.
[If you asked,] we would be happy to help you.
