Live out in...How to translate the phrase?

Post by Ttgirl »

After my mother lost her job, she couldn’t afford to provide for me anymore. She gave me to my grandmother, who lived out in the rice field.

May I know what ‘lived out in the rice fields’ means?

Thank you

It sounds as though grandmother lived in the rice field, "out" of mother's house. Perhaps she had a shack or tent or something in the rice field.

"Out" in this case means "out of here", "over there", "not in the village or community".
