Sir,

I thought he would probabaly arrive this morning.

I have to rewrite this sentence using any modal verb.

1.He may arrive this morning.

2.HE might arrive this morning.

3.He could arrive this morning.

4. He would arrive this morning.

Whic one is correct?

None of these is really suitable, since the original sentence is cast in the past tense. 'May, might, could' all refer to possible present or future, but not past, events.

It may be one of them

He may have arrived this morning.

HE could have arrived this morning.

Which one is correct?
Thanks.

While either might be considered as reporting the outcome
of the circumstances denoted by the original, neither can be considered a paraphrase of it, since the original considers the events from a past point of view, while the others represent it from a present one.
