similar vs. similarly

Post by vpkannan »

Dear Alan

Are both the following sentences correct, and do they mean the same?

1) Your house is built similar to mine.

2) Your house is built similarly to mine.

With regards

Both possible, but slightly different in meaning, the first (a complemental adjective construction) relating to the appearance of the buildings, and the second (adverbial) more to the manner of their construction.
