Hello there, my student wrote:
She had saved up money for her skin care products.
This sounds incorrect to me. Am I understanding correctly why?
The sentence would be correct if she used additional information refering to a point up in the past for example:
She had saved up money for her skin care products by the time she started the training.
So her sentence should just be past simple: She saved up money for her skin care product. No need for had.
Am I correct? Thanks for the help!
She had saved up...

Re: She had saved up...
(Unless the 'by the time'-type phrase is contextually implied) yes.
