own pins/own steam

Postby shalil » Tue Dec 21, 2010 9:50 pm

Hello! I was wondering what these phrases mean?
-on my own pins
-on their own steam
Are these referring to being independent?

Thank you in advance!

Yes, they do refer to being independent.

"Pins" means "legs" or "feet" as in "You''ll have to stand on your own two feet."

"Steam" - as far as I am aware the normal expressions is "under your own steam", meaning without help from anyone else.
