whats the meaning of "LOL"?

there are too many LOLs in the forum,i cant catch the meaning of it.its hard for me to understand for i m not a native english speaker,with the same situation to my friends and colleagues.would you do me a favor ?thanks a lot~

LOL is short for "Laugh Out Loud" ;) It means you're laughing :D Another example would be LMAO, which means "Laughing my ass off". Of course this one's more colloquial :D

While I do not approve of the trend, it is clear that it is here for now. Here's some other common abbreviations being used in forums:

Abbreviation - Meaning


AFAIK - As Far As I Know

BFN - Bye For Now

BTW - By The Way

FAQ(s) - Frequently Asked Question(s)

FUD - Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (not only a forum abbreviation)

FWIW - For What It's Worth

FYI - For Your Information
