How do you pronounce "the" for "the USA" and "the United States of American?"

The letter U may be a vowel but in United it is pronounce "you" - ie it the sound starts with a consonant. When words start with a consonant sound we normally use "thuh" and when words start with a vowel sound we use "thee":
